What are Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) and Exchange Traded Options (ETOs)?

Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) typically seek to track the performance of an index, a currency or a commodity, such as gold. Options allow investors to protect, grow or diversify their investment portfolio.

Most ETFs aim to track the return (before fees and expenses) of the relevant index by investing directly in securities that comprise the index in proportion to the weightings of securities in the index, this is known as “full replication”.

Some ETFs may use a sampling strategy, holding a sub-set or a representative sample of the securities included in the index.

When used well, options may have the power to protect, grow or even diversify your investment portfolio. As options can be used regardless of market conditions, they are popular with many investors.
