Increasing daily transactions and trade value for ASX equities

Over the past 6 years, the number of daily equity transactions on the ASX has grown by almost 91%, with an average of 1.6 million trades recorded every day in 2021.

In the corresponding period, the overall value of equity trades per day has increased by almost 41%. In 2021, the average value of all trades was over $6.6 bn per day.

2020 saw an unprecedented increase in trading activity spurred by the extraordinary impact of Covid-19.

Growth in ETPs

Since 2015, there has been a steady increase in the number of quoted Exchange Traded Products - from just over 100 to 264 between January 2015 and 2022.

Market capitalisation for ETPs in this same period has shown more significant traction with 710% growth and a market cap value of almost $129bn in January 2022.

All Tech Index and Listings activity on ASX

The S&P/ASX All Technology Index launched on 24 February 2020. This high performing index:

  • Has grown from 46 to 77 constituents
  • Increased total market capitalisation of members from $163b to $187b+ between Q1 and Q4 2021
  • Trades $700m+ in average daily value

The ASX also continues to be one of the most active exchanges across the globe and welcomed 241 new listings in 2021, a 113% increase from the previous period.
